The standard University logo is composed of two elements: the HKU Shield and the Wordmark.
HKU Shield
The current presentation of the University's Shield of Arms is based upon a coloured working drawing supplied by the College of Arms in 1958.
Pantone colour for reference (as advised by the Registrar on 25 October 2004).
Bilingual
The Shield and the Wordmark should be used in its entirety without any modifications or additional elements.
This Shield and the Wordmark in bilingual format should be used whenever possible in all bilingual communications, including printed materials, websites and University souvenirs.
English
The Shield and the Wordmark should be used in its entirety without any modifications or additions.
The Shield and the Wordmark in English should be used whenever possible in all English communications only.
Chinese
The Shield and the Wordmark should be used in its entirety without any modifications or additions.
The Shield and the Wordmark in Chinese should be used whenever possible in all Chinese (traditional / simplified) communications only.
Monotone
The monotone version should be utilised only when the full-colour option is not suitable, such as on busy backgrounds or when there is insufficient contrast.
The University's Visual Identity, comprising the HKU Shield and the Wordmark, should be displayed with the minimum clear space. To ensure visibility of the HKU Shield and the Wordmark, text or other visual elements should not be placed within the clear space.
This rule is applicable to all versions of the University's Visual Identity.
The University's Visual Identity, comprising the HKU Shield and the Wordmark, should be displayed with the minimum size to ensure clear display of the University brand. The minimum size of the HKU Shield is 10mm in vertical height for printed materials and 50 pixels for online use.
HKU Green is a blue-green hue derived from the University's Coat of Arms and its green gowns. It reflects heritage and brings colour harmony to key assets.
If green colour is to be used in the design, the HKU Green should be used as the main colour on both digital and printed materials whenever possible.
Members of the public and members of the University, either individually or collectively, who through participation and engagement in University activities have become involved in the use of the University's name may seek for the Registrar's approval for the use of the University's name in writing to the Marketing and Branding Team, Communications and Public Affairs Office, The University of Hong Kong, Pok Fu Lam Road, Hong Kong or branding@hku.hk.
